RidgeRun Kernel CIP - FAQ

What is RidgeRun's Xavier CIP kernel support?

RidgeRun integrates a kernel baseline from the Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP) with NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier and Jetson Xavier NX platforms. The wiki documents the maintenance approach, validation results, build and installation instructions, support boundaries, and release information.

What happens to JetPack 5 support after EoL?

JetPack 5 is scheduled to reach End of Life (EoL) in Q3 2026. Products based on JetPack 5 can still be used and shipped after that date, but NVIDIA will no longer provide maintenance or updates.

For customers who need support after EoL, NVIDIA recommends working with RidgeRun, one of its ecosystem partners. RidgeRun provides a CIP-based Linux kernel baseline to support the continued maintenance of Jetson AGX Xavier and Jetson Xavier NX platforms.

See NVIDIA's JetPack 5 End-of-Life notice.

Which Xavier platforms are covered?

The current scope includes NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier and NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX. Validation is performed on reference developer kit platforms. Custom hardware requires a separate evaluation.

See Risks, Assumptions, and Customer Responsibilities.

What does RidgeRun provide?

The CIP-based Linux Support Package includes access to the source code, documentation, and testing reports. The initial engineering engagement can also cover platform bring-up, BSP integration and customization, integration issues, and adoption of the platform in the customer's software stack.

See What RidgeRun is Offering and Pricing and Engagement Process.

Which platform components have been validated?

The wiki reports status for areas such as the GPU, cameras, video codecs, networking, USB, and storage. The validation scope and current status are listed in Functional Components.

How does this support relate to Xavier End-of-Life (EoL)?

RidgeRun's approach is intended for existing NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier and Jetson Xavier NX products that need a maintained Linux kernel after NVIDIA's official support window. The CIP kernel baseline, validation scope, and support boundaries are documented in this wiki.

See What Problem This Solves and Risks, Assumptions, and Customer Responsibilities.

Where can I find the validation results?

The Release History page links each tracked release to its validation summary, test bench reports, release notes, and related evidence. The status can differ between releases, so review the release-specific page before choosing a version.

Can the support be used with custom Xavier hardware?

The documented validation uses NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier and Jetson Xavier NX reference developer kits. Compatibility with a custom carrier board or another hardware design is not automatic and must be evaluated separately.

Does RidgeRun maintain NVIDIA proprietary firmware and drivers?

No. The support scope does not include modifying, maintaining, or extending NVIDIA proprietary software, firmware, drivers, or other closed-source components. These components remain dependencies of the platform and may affect compatibility with future kernel updates.

See Risks, Assumptions, and Customer Responsibilities.

How do I build and install the kernel?

Use Build Instructions to prepare the source, configure the environment, and build the kernel, device tree, and modules. Then follow Installation Instructions to install them on the target platform.

How do I choose a release?

Start with Release History and review the validation status, test reports, release notes, and known issues for the release you are considering. Do not assume that every listed release has the same validation coverage.

How does the RidgeRun engagement process work?

The CIP-based Linux Support Package is available through RidgeRun. For a supported Xavier platform, the initial engagement includes three months of half-subscription engineering support for integration activities. Additional engineering support can be contracted separately for maintenance, new CIP releases, platform updates, or other development work.

See Pricing and Engagement Process.

What remains the customer's responsibility?

Customers must validate that their applications, middleware, and software stack work with the supported kernel releases. They are also responsible for evaluating custom hardware and third-party software that is outside RidgeRun's support scope.

See Risks, Assumptions, and Customer Responsibilities.
